#197 Raoul Walsh
Ranked ListWith a recent run of International filmmakers, I've been wondering when this Marathon would get back around to someone I know well. Looks like I've landed in my cinematic backyard with one of Warner Bros. most prolific directors from the classic Hollywood era. I've seen about a third of his features and I own my 6 favorites. Three of these - They Drive By Night, The Strawberry Blonde and Manpower - came out within a year.
Walsh has made a lot of mistakes. His color photography often looks crude and he's usually terrible when it comes to special effects, even for the time period. It's all come together enough times to where I repeatedly watch those Top 6, some of the best movies starring Cagney, Bogart, Raft and Flynn.
So I'll be here for a few.
