I need to be cautious here because there are a couple of titles I'm interested in, but  Hiller is not a name you can trust. I'll consider watching eitherThe Wheeler Dealers (1963) or The Man in the Glass Booth (1975).

I started watching Miracle of the White Stallions last week, but got distracted and stopped. For what I watched it wasn't bad, but it definitely is Disney styled fare. It's on YouTube if you're interested.

American Made is pretty good, Tom Cruise is perfect for the role, it works to his strengths
Does it? His greatest strength is intensity, but this character rolls with the situation, often bewildered by out-of-control his life is. Cruise is an excellent actor and I like seeing him try something new, but instead of losing himself he gives a charmless character his megawatt charm.

Whereas I see that charm and cheekiness, rather than his intensity that is his strength. The intensity does not do it for me.

I'll consider watching eitherThe Wheeler Dealers (1963) or The Man in the Glass Booth (1975).

One vote for the latter, since I've always been curious about it.

1SO vs. All the Directors - Agnieszka Holland

#295 Agnieszka Holland Ranked List

A name I have not thought about in a long time. Her poll was one of the most incomplete, even though she's still making features, and still quite acclaimed.

I plan to watch her two Oscar Nominated features.
Angry Harvest (1985)
In Darkness (2011)

1SO vs. All the Directors - Ishirô Honda

#296 Ishirô Honda Ranked List, and a very rough guest. I'm not even sure what I've seen and haven't seen, except for my Top 2 which were recent watches.

Till now I never considered the fact that someone actually directed these films.

Perhaps the most important kaiju director for giving the world Godzilla (1954) and then running the sub-genre into the ground. I don't even know what to watch, short of a Marathon I am not interested in undertaking.

MAYBE:
The H-Man (1958)
Battle in Outer Space (1959)
The Human Vapor (1960)

1SO vs. All the Directors - Shôhei Imamura

#297 Shôhei Imamura Ranked List

I had to  remind myself what mania led to me watching Intentions of Murder last July. (I was attacking my ICM Blindspots.) I've pecked slowly at Imamura's filmography over the years. Most range from Okay to Disappointing and I'm never passionate about any of them, even though some of the stories sound right up my street.

LIKELY:
The Pornographers (1966)
The Eel (1997)

1SO vs. All the Directors - Hiroshi Inagaki

#298 Hiroshi Inagaki Ranked List

I hope one day some company does an exploration of Inagaki's filmography beyond the Samurai Trilogy. He made 17 other films with Toshirô Mifune. At the very least, some of them must be good.

Until such time, I plan to watch Chushingura (1962). Another version of the 47 Ronin, but according to Antares and MartinTeller it's the best version.

1SO vs. All the Directors - Shunji Iwai

#299 Shunji Iwai Ranked List

I've seen one. The question is, how much time do I want to spend with Iwai? Martin suggests Love Letter (1995), which I've heard of. I'm curious about him making two versions of Last Letter nearly back-to-back, but I'm even more curious about Hana and Alice (2004) because in 2015 he made an Animated sequel intriguingly titled The Murder Case of Hana & Alice.

I prefer April Story to Love Letter, but I also think All About Lily Chou-Chou is pretty great. Maybe I’ll add Hana and Alice To my own sick day lineup, if it’s available online.

1SO vs. All the Directors - Steve James and René Laloux
« Reply #759 on: November 12, 2020, 09:08:33 AM »
#300 Steve James Ranked List

Among documentary filmmakers, Steve James doesn't excite me. I find his style very dry, journalistic like a news report, when his subjects are more passionate about what they're doing. It's why I've seen so few.

With DOCember less than a month away, I'm going to set James aside for now, but I've marked Stevie (2002) and At the Death House Door (2008) to watch.

#301 René Laloux Ranked List

This sure is Random. Laloux has a small filmography. For most it's all about Fantastic Planet, which you either love or you don't. In 200 minutes I could be a Laloux completist, but I'm probably just going to watch Gandahar (1988)
