Run out of the business in that he put together scenes and scenarios that would no longer be culturally acceptable? Or just that he's an ass?
Both, he was the right director at the right time, but his behavior on set and the attitude on display in his films make Joss Whedon's abuses look small.

François Ozon Ranked List

Ranking could easily change if I can find the right film for me.
New Ranking: ★ ★ ★ - Okay: #249 out of 431

I know the back half of this Marathon is going to contain a number of blindspots. Still, this director is especially light on information. A handful of features and only two posts in his thread. IMDB recommends M/Other (1999), but ICM has A Perfect Couple (2005) on a list and it's 40min shorter. I may also watch 2/Duo (1997), which has an interesting premise.

I’d have to double-check my 1990s Far East Bracket reviews, but I’m pretty sure I preferred 2/Duo to M/Other.

If pixote’s Generic Joke of the Week were more active, I would’ve efforted to make a pun about these being “slash”-er films. You’re welcome.

I saw that, but it’s co-directed by Hippolyte Girardot, which would make it harder to have an opinion of Suwa.

Another total blindspot. I don't know what will be available to find, but it seems as long as I avoid the most recent stuff I can't choose wrong.

Hope to get to three of these:
Night After Night (2001)
The Living World (2003)
Le pont des Arts (2004)
The Portuguese Nun (2009)

It's been a wild ride from Junior Spielberg to utter disaster to what I think is his rightful place, B-movie guru with great hooks and questionable/laughable execution of those ideas. I'm not a fan, but I've watched everything because his films rarely ask for much from the viewer and are usually fun to talk about after. That's his one consistency, the good ones are as much fun to talk about as the mediocre and terrible ones.

Funny to have two directors in a row I don't think are good, but I'm always interested to watch what they make.

Zack Snyder Ranked List
★ ★ ½: #265 out of 435
Falls between Michael Bay and Paul SW Anderson, but closer to Bay, and someone whose films always improve when they're longer, even though their length then becomes an issue. I've become more comfortable over time and rewatches saying Watchmen is legit great, and if there was a 3-hour version of Sucker Punch, I'm sure I'd watch it.

Denys Arcand Ranked List
Unranked for Now
A director I've been interested in seeing more from. I watched Jesus of Montreal in film school - my roommate later bought the laserdisc - but still think I should see more before forming an overall opinion.

DEFINITE:
The Decline of the American Empire (1986)

LIKELY:
Gina (1975)

MAYBE:
La maudite galette (1972)

The common choice for Best Director of the 2010s. I'm not quite there. He has the talent, but his films often lose focus as they play out. Still, a good candidate for anyone looking to do a complete Marathon, which I thought I did already. He had two features before Polytechnique (2009). I don't feel the need to be a completionist and watch August 32nd on Earth (1998), but I am interested in Maelström (2000).

1SO vs. All the Directors - Bruce McDonald

Bruce McDonald Ranked List
★ ★ ½: #336 out of 438
More of a working director than someone focused on what their career will add up to. Lots of work on television and many films focus around musicians.

I think I didn't get the "We're all watching Pontypool this month" memo.
One of my favorite posts, from Shocktober 2012 when seven people discovered this horror gem. I wish Highway 61 had a similar moment, a film I discovered through Siskel & Ebert.

DEFINITE:
Hard Core Logo (1996)

MAYBE:
Roadkill (1989)
Hellions (2015)

I had to check for myself to confirm that, yes, this is the same Bruce McDonald who directed seventeen episodes of Degrassi: The Next Generation.

edit: And not for the first time, evidently:

Degrassi: The Next Generation ("Mother and Child Reunion")

What was presumably a joke then is reality now.
