Counting feature films only, since recorded time:
2004-2009: ~140 per year
2010-2014: steady increase 225, 281, 390, 450, 461
2015-2017: steady decline 380, 355, 340 (the latter extrapolated from 227 seen this year)

Even with my summer of few movies I've seen 254 this year, my watching has gotten much more spurty the last few years.
2011: 608
2012: 614
2013: 528
2014: 154
2015: 661
2016: 682
The numbers above don't distinguish shorts and I'm too lazy to do so.

This begs the question: what happened in 2014?

I started getting burnt out on movies in late 2013 so was watching less already, and when summer came I didn't feel like watching. I still watched a handful a month, but didn't feel that compulsive urge. It took until Noirvember to start watching again, but it was still "only" 3-4 a week. I didn't really start binging again until late August 2015. This year it's a bit different in that I don't feel burnt out on movies, I just don't feel that compulsive need to watch. I wish I could say I was using the not watching movies time productively, but I'm not, just differently.

Was going to ask the same question. Do people feel a compulsive need to watch movies?

I used to try to keep a very high pace. Including short films I was an easy 500+ a year. I'm not so competitive (with who? I don't know) about it anymore. I probably watch a movie most nights, and often 3-4 over a weekend.

That's still around 435 movies a year. Pretty impressive.

The distribution of the answers is more even than I thought. Was it 1SO who voted for the 1SO option or someone else?

I currently stand at 45 movies (plus 7 shorts) watched for the year, so changing my vote to 50-100. Except I can't. Mods?

Wasn't me. I didn't realize this was a poll and was hoping to stay quiet in the shadows of this discussion.

This trip to Italy marks one of my longest stretches of time without watching a movie. Something that will continue until I fly home on Monday.

I know one movie you could watch on your Trip to Italy...
