Top 5 Consensual Good Movies
« on: October 11, 2017, 11:33:45 AM »
What are the Top 5 movies everyone or almost everyone agrees are good?

And what are the chances this thread will not become a discussion about whether consensuality is at all possible where movies are concerned?

I don't think The Good, the Bad and the Ugly belongs on this list, but the people have spoken.

I feel like we should run this thread by having a list in the opening post of "nominated" films and cross them out when even one person disagrees. Like if somebody hates Die Hard (the monsters!), it gets taken off. I wonder if there'd be anything left.

Ooh, I like that. Just don't give ¡Keith! a turn.

Also, I think it's telling that the five screenshots I posted are so very masculine. :'(

If we do that, we need a caveat that this is about "good". You don't have to think a movie is one of the best ever to keep it on the list. I'm not a super huge fan of Die Hard, but I can admit it's at least a good movie by most measures.

For sure. I wouldn't vote against Godfather Part 2, even if I think it's just fine in comparison to the first film.

Hmmm. That would be a tough one for me. I think fine is significantly different from good.

The five pix quoted are well over that line for me, so there's  that

What about "contains a not-insignificant amount of good."

I just want to point out that it is very us of us to start worrying about the definition of good before we even get rolling here.

If I get bored, I'll normalize this list to account for each person's average rating, since, for example, AAAutin's "6.5" was way different than most.
