My bottom 5 for 2017 films (IMDB dates) at this point:

84. Churchill (Jonathan Teplitzky)
85. Lerd / A Man of Integrity (Mohamad Rasoulof)
86. Wind River (Taylor Sheridan)
87. Ôtez-moi d'un doute (Carine Tardieu)
88. Carré 35 (Eric Caravaca)

Churchill is the dullest biopic imaginable, with Cox not hamming it up enough for it to be fun, but not giving more than an imitation either.

Lerd is a dull, dour, heavy-handed and poorly-acted Iranian drama.

Wind River is a film that's about Native Americans and rape, or rather it's all about the white guy who's going to make everything alright by killing bad guys because he's a manly man and that's what we need.

Ôtez-moi d'un doute is a French romantic dramedy about how stalking is great and you should definitely do it and it's cool and ok.

Carré 35 is a documentary about a guy who's uncovering the truth about something his parents hid from him (it has to do with the death of child), and equating that with the Algerian War and colonialism (because his parents where French people living in Morocco and Algeria at the time). It's well-done, but digusting., both because of that parallel and the inquisitive nature of the whole process. It's basically a guy whining (implicitely) that his parents lied to him about something one totally gets why they would lie about... that's annoying enough, when you equate with colonialism it's just... no. It raises interesting questions and stuff, but no.

I think you're too negative on Wind River, but I am not going to spend much breath defending it.

You've seen 88 movies released this year? Impressive. Are those original releases or releases in France?

Original release (according to IMDB). Going by the French release, I'm at 126. Unlimited movie cards are... good for me, bad for me ? I don't know, but it means I watch a lot of films in the theater (my heuristic is 3 a week, but I guess it ends up averaging to a bit less than that since I'm likely to end somewhere in the 130s).

Is there a way to filter by release date of a specific country?

IMDB has that info but I don't know if theres an easy way to do that, and theres definitely no way to do it on Letterbox'd. Which is why I keep track of it year-round.

I mostly avoided bad films this year. These are the only films I'd say I actively disliked:

Okja
Logan
Manifesto

Split

I have seen a number of mediocre movies this year, but thankfully, the painfully bad ones are few. I am unlikely to watch anything this bad in the next couple of months, so here goes.

Justice League
Wonder Wheel
What Happened to Monday

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword

Some of these suffer from the expectations I had, but mostly, they're terrible.
