Is exactly what I tell people when I cannot be bothered to cook a proper meal and put some whatever together in twenty minutes.

We should add this line to the movie quote thread. It comes in very handy!

Angel (1937) is from my Essentials. It's one of Ernst Lubitsch's most obscure films. Also one of his best. I was happier to see than than Day of the Jackal.

Though I loved seeing Jackal as well.

2016: I've watched 235 of 284 for 83%
2017: I've watched 148 of 180 for 82%

206 titles now and I'm holding at 82%

Trouble No More is 2017. That can't be a Discovery, it's Filmspot eligible.
I can buy that.

The performances are from 1980 however, and none have been (officially) available until now. He did have a tight band behind him then. Can it have a honorable mention, perhaps?

Might be the first time The Core has made any top list of anything.
;D

Sooner or later it had to make one!

Jackal was a weird movie that really stayed with me. Angel doesn't have many stand out moments but I really love its heart.

I always love this thread.

Proof that the thread works...
7. Young & Beautiful
This has been in my queue for ages...should finally make it a priority.

Always a great feeling!

Mine this year is heavily indebted to Filmspotters.

1. The Babadook - Jennifer Kent (2014)
How did I miss this a few years ago!? Familiar horror movie tropes executed brilliantly. Scary. The only 2017 discovery to break into My Top 100.

2. Rififi - Jules Dassin (1955)
@Teproc. Heist movie with plenty of variety.

3. Tangerines - Zaza Urushadze (2013)
@DH. Humanity amongst hatred.

4. About Elly - Asghar Farhadi (2009)
Classic Farhadi: forcing people to confront how they actually feel about each other.

5. Perfume: The Story of a Murderer - Tom Tykwer (2006)
@1SO. Alluring smells. And a lot of blood!

6. Blue Valentine - Derek Cianfrance (2010)
Why couldn't she...? We couldn't he...? How did they...? Ah CINECAST! it. :(

7. Jane Eyre - Cary Fukunaga (2011)
@Sandy. Powerhouse lead performances. Heart-wrenching drama. Unequivocal passion.

8. The Rocky Horror Picture Show - Jim Sharman (1975)
Audience participation viewing. What an experience.

9. The Beguiled - Don Seigel (1971)
@1SO. Mad energy madhouse in the South. Religion. Jealousy. Sex.

10. Berlin Calling - Hannes Stöhr (2008)
Paul Kalkbrenner owning it.
Those are my principles, and if you don't like them... well, I have others.

Tangerines! I don't remember a review. Did you ever talk about it. Movie's lit.
