I could see both a female Indiana Jones and a female James Bond.

Indiana Jones is just a smart archaeologist who kicks ass. Look at The Last Crusade and Elsa, she is basically his equal is she had a little better head on her shoulders (and a little more physically impressive which another actress could pull of [say Charlize Theron], just not Alison Doody).

James Bond uses sex as a weapon, why couldn't a woman do the same? The rest of it is just dedication to Queen and country and some ass kicking.

I can understand why some people would be so connected to the gender of a character, but I think it in no way would "ruin" the mythos of a character if gender were recast.

Can you see a 40 year old James Bond woman? I have trouble imagining Jessica Chastain or Cate Blanchett sleeping their way into Blofeld's lair.

Because sexual dynamics are different on the other side.

You do? Those are two phenomenally alluring women.

Yeah, but it's not about me believing they can get seduce a man. James Bond sleeps with multiple people in a movie, all of them gorgeous and often in their twenties and early thirties. It works for him partly because men are not slutshamed in the way women are, not just in general but also in movies, and also because women are often attracted to older men. The same is not true the other way around.

I think you are off base here and speaking in complete generalizations. Bond has received A LOT of flack for its misogyny, which is to say Bond is beginning to be "slut shammed" for his promiscuity as well. In terms men not being attracted to older women, I take offense to this (especially being married to an older woman myself). A woman is attractive if she is attractive, no matter the age.

A lot of this discussion simply boils down to how progressive you'd see the series(es) to being. I personally see nothing wrong with an "older" woman playing Bond.

How progressive can Bond be and remain Bond?

That’s my point. I’m all for a female 00 Agent, but can you cast Cate Blanchett, put the iconic theme behind her and tell me it's still THE James Bond?
