Hitting up PAX South this weekend. I'll report back on the video games. Assuming it'll be 90% smaller indie stuff, which is fine with me.

WTF is up with Yakuza 6 coming out so CINECAST!ing late?

Should I buy DBZ or Monster Hunter (didn't like 3 or 4), or just get nothing and play more Neir?

I might try Monster Hunter but honestly this is such a slow time for games may as well just play what you've got. I didn't love Nier but I'm glad it exists. It's an ambitious title and we need more games that try something like it.

Nintendo announced a new roster of released games coming to the Switch.

Dark Souls Remastered and Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze are definitely making it into my collection.

I played Dark Souls for like 20 hours and I still have no idea how the stupid campires work or what those ghosts you see do. I wouldn't mind the game being stupid hard so much if the "checkpoints" weren't so few and far between. I die and spend 10 minutes getting back to the part I died at, which itself is at least another 20 minutes from my next opportunity to save. Also, I've always disliked reappearing enemies. Kill everything in a room, leave for 2 seconds, come back it's full again. Also there is little satisfaction in the levelling system. You have like 12 traits that go from like 0 to 100 and you add 3 pts to something. wow. It never makes a noticable difference. And pursuing any one trait doesn't turn you into a specialist, it just makes you vulnerable everywhere else. Hated the levelling screen and system.

Since January is such a dryspell for games, Iíve decided to dust off some older games. First off, Tom Clancyís The Division was a game, I believe, was one of my most disappointing games of 2016 and a lot of that had to do with my Destiny backlash and wanting a more tactical shooter, juxtaposed to a loot-based RPG with bullet sponge enemies. Well, apparently Iím over that now and Iím really enjoying starting this game over with a few buddies. The subsequent PS4 Pro patches with 4K support and improved anti-aliasing makes this game one of the best looking to date. Iím enjoying the slick UI and since weíre playing every mission on Hard, it really does encourage coordination. I know Ubisoft put in a lot of work into this title post-release, akin to most of their games as of late, so Iím looking forward to playing more of it and the DLC updates until Monster Hunter World rolls out.

I also popped on Human Fall Flat because it was on sale for 5 bucks and itís a hoot. Iím sad that there isnít any online multiplayer, but they did patch it in to the PC version in October, so thereís still hope. Lastly, I also decided to pick up the Remastered version of Valkyria Chronicles, because... well... itís one of the best games of all time, of course.

Just played a 6 hour marathon session of The Division SURVIVAL and it might have been my favorite online experience Iíve ever had. It was challenging, confusing, scary, exciting, and thoughtful. I canít stop thinking about it and canít wait to play more.

Update: The longest Iíve lasted is about an hour and a half, with my crew usually getting killed in the Dark Zone by the disease, cold, or by a hunter. This game is HARD. This game is fun.

I was going to write up a long diatribe about why Iím loving The Division: Survival so much, and how itís the most interesting ďBattle RoyaleĒ game to date... but this video sums up my feelings quite well:
