Holiday family gaming update:
-Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was the go-to-game amongst my siblings and niece & nephew. The game is fun and accessible at so many skill levels. Playing with the Switch Joycon is cramp-city, however. The kids like the motion controls more than the nub, but kids are pretty stupid. The chaos and rubber banding elements (i.e. blue shells), really made it a blast for everyone.
-I kept trying to talk up Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, mainly because I just dropped $60 on it just to play with my family, and I kept talking about how there were so many characters to pick from. But APPARENTLY, you only have 8 characters unlocked at the offset?!?! What. The. F*ck. Confused, I took to Google and found that you have to unlock all the characters via single player fights/online skirmishes. F*ck that. We played two matches and turned to the next game.
-The kids went to bed and the beers were opened. It was Super Mario Party time. I had two Joycons and a pro controller, so it was perfect for me to play with my brother and sister. But, again, APPARENTLY, this game doesn’t support the pro controller, you know... the most expensive flagship controller for the system. And, again, f*ck that. Frustrated, I let my siblings play and I watched/drowned my sorrows in alcohol. They looked like they had fun, though.
We never touched Mario Tennis Aces.
