I didn't even know there was a Denzel movie this year.

I'm convinced Franco got the votes and someone at the Academy was like, "Nah."

I can't tell you how happy I am that not one but two horror films were nominated for BP and director and screenplay, plus one in every acting category. That's huge. Glad to also see women getting acknowledged more in the behind the scenes stuff, directing and writing and cinematography as well. Here's hoping it'll lead to more opportunities in the future.

The Florida Project and Michael Stuhlbarg (CMBYN) and Vicky Krieps are my big misses, but that's a far cry from the usual host of missed greatness from the Oscars.

I will, however, be disappointed when 3 Billboards wins everything. Though McDonnagh missing from the director list is maybe an indication that there is some chance of something else winning.

Is there a chance of Billboards winning everything?

Based on other awards, yes. But there's also a chance that The Shape of Water does also and it has the "is-kind-of-about-movies" factor going for it. Luckily, it's better than The Artist and Argo.

But not La La Land, I am sure.

I would put all of this year's nominees (that I have seen, including 3 Billboards) for BP above La La Land on a list. And a few above Moonlight (maybe CMBYN and Get out, but not much else). 2017>>>2016.

Billboard for Picture and del Toro for Best Director seems too obvious not to happen.

Manville's nomination is one of the only good things about this crop.

The absence of Coco from the Best Picture race is dumb af.

I think Get Out is going to win BP.

I do agree this year seems flat.

I said nothing of the sort. I haven't seen half of the Best Picture nominees. I was only commenting on the few films I knew about.

Apologies.
