I was looking at the list, seeing who I needed to tap on the shoulder, and I turned around and looked at myself!  Well, it's time for a new list, then!

This time I've put together the Top 100 Films I Wish Everyone Would See

I'm taking out the strictly personal choices and leaving the films I love that I think almost everyone could get something out of.  No Tideland or Mary Poppins for you!  And no Empire Strikes Back because if you haven't seen it yet, my list won't get you to see it.

Top film of all time: Spirited Away

The rest of my top 10:
The Double Life of Veronique
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
Rear Window
Red Beard
Princess Mononoke
The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp
Amelie
A Serious Man
The Tree of Life

The rest of my list see here.

Here's some double features you might want to consider:

Deep sensuality:
The Scent of Green Papaya
The Double Life of Veronique

Uncentered entertainment:
Stormy Weather
Hellzapoppin'

Unique visual beauty:
Pina
Alamar

Homelessness:
Vagabond
Wendy and Lucy
The Man without a Past

Sympathetic view of the "disabled"
The Elephant Man
Freaks
The House is Black

Amazing Adaptations:
To Kill a Mockingbird
Les Miserables (1934)

War is Hell and Artistic:
Paths of Glory
The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp
The Mortal Storm

Musical Biographies:
Amadeus
I'm Not There

Walk Through History:
12 Years a Slave
Andrei Rublev

Pilgrimages:
The Mirror
A Canterbury Tale

Fictional Biographies:
Vera Drake
The Apostle

Assassins:
The Assassin
Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai
Leon

The Life of Compassion:
Red Beard
Tokyo Godfathers
The Human Condition
After the Wedding

Not your Father's Animation:
A Scanner Darkly
World of Tomorrow

Show, Don't Tell:
Three Colors: Blue
3-Iron

Unique Documentary Approaches:
Exit Through the Gift Shop
The Gleaners and I
For All Mankind

What is going on at this party anyway?
Fanny and Alexander
The Dead

Horrible people we look at again
The Selfish Giant
In a Lonely Place

Bitter, clever satire:
The Exterminating Angel
Sweet Secret of Success
Brazil

Heck, just watch Spirited Away again.  You know you want to.  We could make this the Spirited Away Appreciation Thread.

Need to see:
The Scent of Green Papaya
Journey to the West
The Selfish Giant
The Mirror
Alamar
The Assassin

The last three and the first are the ones I hope to get to.

Interesting approach. Leaves me with 3 options:
Journey to the West (2014) - I've seen Walker, the short film of this. Not likely to watch the long version.
Les Miserables (1934) - Been on my Watchlist forever, but 4hrs 41min holds me back every time
Lucky # Slevin (2006) - my kind of movie, but I thought general opinion was unfavorable? Plus, I don't want to just select the shorter option. Makes a good fallback choice if my month gets busy.

Journey to the West is a sequel, not a longer version.  I prefer this one over Walker, but No No Sleep is the most different from Walker.  Journey to the West is just a better version of the theme, in my opinion.

Les Miserables doesn't feel long.  It's a series in chapters, so it's easy to take a break.  And besides, I want SOMEONE to watch this best adaptation of this novel.  Well, best in my opinion.  I do love the musical.

Lucky # Slevin-- I saw this in the library, was in the mood for a silly action film and was blown away.  I also saw it on a couple lists, but I don't care, what fun.  I hope you watch it.

The Scent of Green Papaya
Journey to the West
The Selfish Giant
The Mirror
Alamar
The Assassin

The last three and the first are the ones I hope to get to.

I hope you watch any of these.  But I am most interested in your opinion of Green Papaya and The Mirror.

Lots there I have not seen (well most of those listed). My best chance for a watch are:

The Double Life of Veronique
Freaks
The Assassin

Lets see how I go.

The Apostle
Les Miserables
Stormy Weather
Hellzapoppin'
Journey to the West
The Human Condition
A Page of Madness
A Canterbury Tale
The Mirror

I feel like I've been almost watching The Apostle for your months the entire time we've been doing this so that's my priority assuming Netflix can get it to me. I've put a hold on Stormy Weather as well. I am eying Les Miserables if I can find the time over a few nights.

Will definitely take this opportunity to get around to To Kill a Mockingbird.

If I watch more, the main candidates would be:
Red Beard
Gosford Park
The Human Condition
Kagemusha
Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring
Punch-Drunk Love
Brick

Movies on this list that I own but haven't seen yet:

The Double Life of Veronique
Lawrence of Arabia

Will certainly do the former, maybe the latter, maybe something else (The Exterminating Angel?)

I really like the idea of this list. Thanks for making it!

The Apostle
The Guard
The Selfish Giant
How to Train Your Dragon
In America
I'm Not There
Validation
Tokyo Godfathers
Lucky Number Slevin
The Assassin
Mother!
Wit

Validation has been on my watchlist for a while, so I'll do that. Watching just a 16-minute short feels like cheating though, so I'll try to squeeze in something else. Mother! would be a good candidate, but I probably can't get my hands on it in time, unless it's streaming somewhere. I must admit I'm also intrigued by the inclusion of Lucky Number Slevin.
