The Disney Juggernaut
« on: May 30, 2018, 06:24:08 AM »
With the latest acquisition of Fox, Disney has become something akin to 50% of Hollywood, so it is only fitting it should have its own thread.

Today I am only interested in one question though. I just heard on a podcast that Disney now had the rights to the X-Men franchise (somehow I had not realised this before) and my mind is swirling with the possibilities. Does anyone know what they intend to do with it? Are all the movies Fox had planned still in the works? Will Disney reboot the universe at some point to include it in the MCU, or to start from scratch in a universe that's not crap? I mean, I want to keep getting Deadpool movies, but at the same time, seeing the Avengers go to toe against the X-Men, man...

Disney has not yet completed the deal for Fox. Last I heard was the Comcast has also put in an offer.

As for Disney X-Men, I vote for Pluto as Wolverine, Bugs as Professor X, and Daffy as Magneto.

Nonsense.

Scrooge McDuck would do a much better Magneto.

Fox will hold a meeting on July 10 to vote on the merger with Disney.

If this goes through, I do like the timing of the MCU getting access to the X-Men right when it's time to re-cast Wolverine. Seems like they will recast everyone except for Deadpool.

I hope they do. I want to see Jessica Chastain cast as Jean Grey. Patrick Stewart was their one genius bit of casting and he's retired anyway.

I have to imagine that if the deal goes through, some X-Men films will stay in development with the goal to have the characters interacting with the rest of the MCU. Kind of like what Marvel has done with some of the characters they "got back" once they became an actual studio such as Daredevil, Punisher, Spider-Man etc.

Disney does dominate in a lot of ways- their remakes/sequels of their animated films, original animated stuff, Pixar, Star Wars/Lucasfilm, Marvel, theme park related stuff... Their library is crazy.

But Daredevil didn't have an active franchise when they got it back, and they did not incorporate SM, they rebooted him.

I'm sure they'll figure out some story that explains why these characters have never heard from each other. Or they can reboot some of the characters and keep some continuity the same.

I would cast Michael Cera as all of the X-Men.
