Different members of my family were finishing up season one of The Good Place and it made me think of how densely philosophical it is in a way unlike any other mainstream American television show I can think of. Sure, a lot of sci-fi shows explore philosophical concepts, but this one felt a lot more direct in a way that I've really only seen Anime do in television where the high-concept of the show is very much about the ethics and philosophy of characters' actions.

The Dekalog is another obvious example from another part of the world. I'm not saying other American shows don't make philosophical points, but it's rarely a driving force or strong consideration it seems.
