Top 5 Favourite depictions of a group of friends
« on: August 29, 2018, 11:30:11 PM »
Inspired by Sandy's description of Barbarian Invasions:

How do these guys know each other so well? I know they're characters in a made up world, where they have known each other for a very long time, but the actors; it's as if they either are these characters, or they are based on portions of their own lives. I keep seeing these winking nods and knowing looks

By "group of friends" I was thinking 4 or more, since duos and trios are kind of their own thing.

I wanted to get in quick before the good ones were taken:

1. Stand By Me
2. Toy Story 1, 2, and 3
3. Dazed and Confused
4. Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix, not the main three, but all of Dumbledore's Army
5. Peter Pan, specifically talking about the lost boys who are having too much of a good time

Boy, this is tough. There's no IMDb keyword or Criticker collection I can use to narrow my choices. Most of the movies about friends that come to mind are either duos/trios (a LOT of trios) or more like a co-worker relationship.

1. Linda Linda Linda
2. All About My Mother
3. House Party (by and large a trio, but I think it's fair to include the girls and maybe even the Groove B. Chill guys)
4. Days and Nights in the Forest
5. The Wizard of Oz

Honorable mention: Stop Making Sense. Okay, we never see them outside the context of performing together (basically co-workers)... but they sure LOOK like friends.

It's by far the one that best fits the topic for me. Watching those four play off each other is endlessly comforting to me.

Actually, Martin, I found a keyword search for IMDB.

1. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
2. Metropolitan/The Last Days of Disco
3. Wayne's World
4. The Adventures of Robin Hood
5. The World's End

Ah, thanks. Doesn't change my list any. The Blues Brothers, Hausu, and Drugstore Cowboy are all in my top 100, and La Grande Bouffe is great too. But I wouldn't say their "depictions of a group of friends" is what I like about them. I'll add an honorable mention for Pitch Perfect.

Yea, I ranked mine more by how I felt about them as stories about groups of friends.

The Descent, American Pie, Wet Hot American Summer would all rank for me. World's End, definitely. Good one.

It's more difficult than I imagined it would be to think of candidates.

edit: 4 Weddings and a Funeral! I can't believe I didn't think of that one sooner.
