Just finished a rewatch of Murder, My Sweet, which seems to have been very little reviewed on the forum. I've found thoughts from MartinTeller, edgar00, and ses. Anyone have reviews that I'm missing? I need help parsing my own reaction.

I thought I had written one, but I couldn't find one on the other site where I store them. It's been a while since I watched it, but IIRC, I found Dick Powell woefully miscast. But Claire Trevor delivers another stellar performance. It's got all the noir tropes down cold, with the exception of a dream or hallucination sequence I remember. I rated it 71/100 on Criticker.

I may just re-watch the classics, instead of watching something new. I've watched a lot of noir over the years, and all the good ones have been seen. It's been disheartening to watch some of the lesser quality films I've been subjecting myself to, just to complete the genre tally sheet.

I thought I had a review too but I guess I didn’t want to repeat what I said about Powell in Cornered. I thought at the time he was a terrible fit for Noir, but I’ve seen him shine in two good ones since. I’ve also come around completely on Claire Trevor.

I just watched a clip about Powell in Noir focused on Murder My Sweet. Could certainly watch it again. Like Antares I’m more inclined to rewatch something this month.

Can anyone recommend a noir with a real irreverent sense of humour, or a protagonist with that sort of humour?

"Oh, is this where I’m supposed to say, ‘What is all this about?’ and he says, ‘Shut up, I ask the questions’?"

Off top of head I’ve got The Long Goodbye and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Irreverence in Noir is a more modern take.

Perhaps Bogart in The Big Sleep. "You know what he’ll do when he comes back? Beat my teeth out, then kick me in the stomach for mumbling."

Hmm, those suggestions fit the question, but I guess that's not quite what I'm looking for. Maybe I don't know what I'm looking for. A noir that I would actually like... I just don't know what that would be or how to describe it.
