Kinda just being random. Though the inciting incident relates to all all these kids getting into top schools, which sort of embodies the white, suburban, upper middle class perspective of the film — encouraging my brain to lump it together with other recent coming of age films (Thoroughbreds, Edge of Seventeen, Ladybird, Eighth Grade, etc.) which as a group exist in a pretty narrow space on the race-class spectrum, marking very little progress in that regard since John Hughes’ heyday.

I like all the films in the parenthesis way more, but it's a valid and good way to group those films, I think it's applicable and does keep them all kind of dwelling in the same space.

RE: Rocketman, the soundtrack is good, but huge missed opportunity to include the best song involving Elton John: Young Thug's "High."

The Souvenir

Director
Lead Actress - Honor Swinton Byrne

Probably other things too, need to think on it. Hopefully other people see it and fill in the gaps for me.

There's a dramatic scene I want to nominate, but not sure how to describe it.

The Souvenir

*Picture
*Director
Original Screenplay
*Actress (Honor Swinton Byrne)
Actor (Tom Burke)
Supporting Actress (Tilda Swinton)
Ensemble Cast
Editing
Soundtrack
Comedic Scene (Bed Dysmorphia)

The last two shots of the movie are both nice — the first being a moving camera shot that did exactly what I hoped it would do, right up until a self-reflexive glance; the second being the view of the world from inside a sound stage — but I can’t quire convince myself to FYC either. Even Editing, Soundtrack, and Supporting Actress we’re close class, but the last few years have taught me that I’m going to end up scavenging for nominees by ballot time, so better to over-FYC now.

Editing is a good call, and Soundtrack is used pretty effectively. That's a good comedic scene as well, likely the first part where I got on board with/understood Burke as more than just a character I thought I had figured out. Not sure how to go about nominating the scene where She definitely finds out that he stole her stuff and they have a conversation where she says something like, "I appreciate there are things you can't tell me." And he hits back with "There are things about me that drive you mad, and there are things about you that drive me mad." I'm doing a bad job of describing it, but the camera is kind of all just in one place, that thing really floored me in that moment, nearly started crying, and definitely realized just how strong the script was at that point.

I was planning to use the last image from the scene you describe as the screenshot for my review (if it’s in the trailer). Definitely a tough one to describe. I think the “I’m fine” scene/shot hit me a little harder.

Young Solitude (Claire Simon)

I Was at Home, But (Angela Schanelec)

Not sure what I should do with this one. Definitely my favorite of the year by a wide margin, but US distribution (a first for Schanelec) won't happen until next spring. So, wait for it be available and ignored next year, or try for another La casa lobo this year?

Haha! :D Seconded! It’s as predictable in the dialogue department as they come. Luckily, the crayons are vibrant.
