Playlist Portrayals
« on: April 08, 2019, 05:35:46 PM »

So here's the thing...

Back when I had that music thread, I was haphazardly throwing songs into Spotify. Sometimes they landed in playlists with your names on them and sometimes in generic places. I'm de-cluttering my messy Spotify space now and would love help getting organized.

Who would like to create a playlist of perhaps ten songs that represents you? I will gladly take that list and use it for the playlists that I have already created for many of you, or I will create a new one with your name on it. :)

Even though I won't have time to reflect here on your music, you can be sure your playlists will be played and appreciated.

Thanks!

1SO

One song that people would remember before you're dirt. One song that would let God know how you felt about your time here on Earth. One song that would sum you up.

I will have to think about this.

Wow, this is a big ask ;) I mean, do I go for personal attachment, my general top 10, something that I feel gives you some insight into my experience... Pondering!

I knew if I did this, it would create so many questions I'd want to ask about the stories behind the songs, so 1SO, next time we're in chat, I will want to ask about your song choices. :)

No pressure, Corndog! I have a playlist with your name on it and they're all Susan Tedeschi songs. They'll keep me happy for now.

:D

How's this? If you give me more than one list. I'll keep it (them) too!

I'm so glad you chimed in ˇKeith!  I have a playlist with your name on it with just Tom Odell songs and then another Keith (and a last name) playlist with 95 songs.  Here's the first bit...

Know Til Now
Ode to Viceroy
When I See You Again
Doom And Glom
It's My Part...

Does this sound like your music? :)

Chameleon (Herbie Hancock)
i [Single Version](Kendrick Lamar)
In Your Eyes (Peter Gabriel)
Everything is Everything (Lauryn Hill)
All of it Was Music (Over the Rhine)
Majesty (Disasterpiece)
Reflecting Light (Sam Phillips)
Cold War (Janelle Monae)
War is Over (Lowland Hum)
Close to the Edge (Yes)

I tried to give them a bit of a flow to them. Some are about the flow of the sounds between the two, others have obvious thematic ties between them.

I believe we had a bit of a chat about Tom Odell at some point if I remember correctly. Funny enough, just looked at Spotify and he's playing Philly in 3 days! Haven't gotten into a lot of his output since the debut though. Couple tracks on the follow-up piqued my ear but not much after that.

The other set looks to be the best of 2012 playlist!

Just in case you want to play the home version, 2013 to 2018 exist as well ;)
2013
2014
2015
2016
2017
2018

You now have 7 #1 songs for each of the last number of years, I'd guess a rather unique format, comparatively!

Gypsy Cowboy (New Riders Of The Purple Sage)
Cancion Mixteca (Harry Dean Stanton)
Walk Away Renee (Rickie Lee Jones)
Let's Go Crazy (Prince)
Down On The Bottom (Elvis Costello & The Imposters)
Bella Ciao (Marc Ribot, Tom Waits)
Look At Miss Ohio (Gillian Welch)
Kong (Neneh Cherry)
On The Road Again (Canned Heat)
Motörhead (Motörhead)

These already may have been featured in some other context and they are more like Polaroids than they are a storybook. Happy listening, Sandy!
Extraordinary (81-100˚) | Very good (61-80˚) | Good (41-60˚) | Fair (21-40˚) | Poor (0-20˚)

Thanks, Knocked Out Loaded! A few familiar ones, but many new-to-me songs! I do remember Nene from another song you shared. :)

ˇKeith! I forgot to reply back! I was looking at your links and got pulled away, and then life got busy and I forgot! Thank you for compiling this for me. And thanks for the update about Odell. I'll keep the songs of his I have and be good with that for now. :)
