As a classic film buff, I feel like almost all of my favourite movies are overlooked!

Can something be a classic if it is overlooked?

These are movies I feel are criminally overlooked, not just in general, but specifically in this forum. I would not for example put a Nichols film on here as he has add more than his share of advocating from the podcast and the members of these fine boards.

A Royal Affair
Tangerines
Garden State

The Hunt
Kirikou et la Sorcière

I would especially recommend Kirikou to the animation fans, Garden State to those who enjoy non overly artistic modern movies that rely on characters, mood and writing more than anything and A Royal Affair to people who like liking things.

Sherman's March (1986)

Hilarious and endearing documentary. Woody Allen meets Werner Herzog.

There's Nothing Out There (1991)

Very silly, but clever send up of B-horror flicks. Tons of fun.

Sakuran (2007)

Gorgeous Japanese melodrama with a fantastic score.

Streets of Fire (1984)

Maybe not entirely overlooked, but this should come up in conversation as much as any of Walter Hill's other films.

October Country (2009)

Powerful family doc with gorgeous imagery.

Garden State

Curious where you're from Darkening. Garden State was pretty big in the US. Popular enough to spark a backlash.

I had no idea Garden State was popular anywhere. I had never heard of it until I came across it on the internets. And since I never got the impression it was a very well known movie among the general audience.

It's very well known... and denigrated. It is also awesome.

It absolutely is awesome.

I cannot believe I forgot Le Roi et l'Oiseau, an absolute favourite.
