jim, except for Creator I very much endorse your picks.
Shoot the Moon is intensely dramatic and I feel like I'll never forget the climax of that one.
I own Exorcist III, which contains one of the greatest scares of all time and a ton of great dialogue. (Written and Directed by William Peter Blatty, who also W&D The Ninth Configuration. I wish he directed more.)
Deep Cover I briefly mentioned under Top 5 Ethical Dilemmas, but I figured nobody had heard of it.
You perfectly describe The Hospital. How the terrible Arthur Hiller got to direct a Paddy Chayefsky script I'll never know, but this is like if someone made an entire film like the final scene in There Will Be Blood. Lots of great dialogue delivered at histrionic pitch.

Thanks 1SO.  By the way - I'm pretty sure I know what scare you're talking about in Exorcist III.  It's a great moment and not a cheap cat-jumping-out-of-the-closet bit.  I'll take a look for your mention of Deep Cover - that movie gives a viewer a lot to chew over.

Jeff Goldblum's best performance. Laurence Fishburne was new to me when I saw this, and I was very impressed. Definitely an over looked film, glad you pointed it out. One of the best of this sub-genre (drugs and cops that is).

"Best" is a strong word, Dave!  But I would easily put it in his top two or three performances without having to think it through.

Exorcist III is cool. That's the one in the skyscraper, right?

I think that was Poltergeist III  :D

Ah yes. That one was good, too. From my distant memory.

It maybe a strong word, but as I have not seen the Fly, I have not found any to better it, and I have found a lot that are way worse. What would you rank as his top performances?

Okay - I just reviewed his filmography and am saddened by how unimpressive is the totality of it all.  I like Goldblum a lot, and feel like he should be used more in better films.

That having been said, my top three Jeff Goldblum performances are:
The Fly
Deep Cover
Into the Night

He is also very good in The Big Chill, but that role is a pretty thankless one (he's the "shallow" friend among all the crunchy-granola deep thinkers) and Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

I think his talent is pretty discernible in how he turns in some very memorable performances in some very minor roles.  To wit:
Next Stop, Greenwich Village
The Right Stuff
Between the Lines
Annie Hall

And the only performance of his that I've actively disliked is in the film Powder.  It's as if he is doing a bad Jeff Goldblum impersonation - really punching up his "quirkiness" factor.

As a classic film buff, I feel like almost all of my favourite movies are overlooked!

Some gems that I really love:

1) Dames (1934)
2) My Date With Drew (2004)
3) Waking Sleeping Beauty (2009)
4) These Amazing Shadows (2011)
5) Charade (1963)

Has anyone in these forums seen the three docs I posted? My Date With Drew in particular, which has to be one of the most feel-good documentaries I've ever seen!
