For general quality reasons or because it is now problematic/canceled?

Bc it's problematic. I'd think Lester would fit your problematic male anti-hero. Not that I care to pigeonhole you, just had a surprised initial reaction. Plus, that was a long time ago, we change.

I think the quality issue is debatable.

I just thought it was insuferable before it was cool.

As a teenage boy at the time it was a lot easier to put myself in Lester's shoes lusting over a teenage cheerleader and not have it seem gross. Now that I'm closer to the character's age and with Spacey being who he is known to be now, things would probably play very differently. Though I don't really think of Lester as an anti-hero. Lust aside, he's not a particularly dark or evil character.

I just was surprised a film where the lead male lusts after a teen wasn't seen as deeply problematic and morally repugnant.

I think you can argue that the film does present this as pretty repugnant... though my issue is that the film seems to have such contempt for all its characters during most of it, before asking you to suddenly care right at the end, so I don't know. I'm not sure I'd say repugnant (for the film I mean) as much as deeply cynical, smug and overwrought.

NA. Spotlight

How'd this one slip through your cracks? I wouldn't usually bat an eye at someone not having seen such and such movie, but you specifically seem to be pretty up to date, catching the new releases and whatnot.

Anyways, consider yourself lucky to have such an engaging film to look forward to. :)

Yea I don’t know either, just missed it and haven’t caught up to this point. Not out of lack of interest!

His follow up to The Cobbler. So strange. I need to watch that thing on D+ that came out a few weeks ago. Not sure what to make of McCarthy. Really don't like Spotlight regardless.
