If you like to sing Karaoke, you should come to Asia.  Though, I am not sure how many of the karaoke bars are going to survive given they have not let most entertainment venues open yet. I think they could be prolonging opening them up just to drive them out of business as they do have connections to some vices.

I think we are now at 14 days without any community cases, just a few that are usually imported so they test positive while in quarantine after getting off their flight. So life and socialising is reasonable but still with a lot of restrictions. But economy is still suffering, especially since a lot of it depends on tourism and business travel.  That is likely be very slow for at least a year

But I do need to get home at some point to see my parents, so hopefully this will help make that easier. Most likely will be July or next Thanksgiving.

I've got lots of friends I'd like to see face to face when this is all over. Will probably just make the rounds.

I imagine pretty quick once it is safe there will be a big family dinner or something. I'll have to reach out to some of my friends for trivia nights or karaoke nights. I mean, I was not the most social person even before but I really do need to find some groups to get involved with...thinking about trying to do more local politics stuff for one. And of course there's the travel.

Am curious about where "home" is for you, as I only know your location as Singapore, though I've gathered you're not originally from there.

All I know about Asian karaoke comes from the movies and manga. I envision you renting a room and singing among your friends. Accurate? I'm guessing prostitution is one of the vices you're getting at. Also accurate?

I used to be a lot more social, but it's slowed down the last 5-7 years. I used to go out all the damn time, and now I'm itching for it again. Your comment makes me think we're not so dissimilar, and I was even thinking of the political thing during my drive home from work today. This whole thing has made me feel like I need to be with people more when it's over. Same?

Correct that I am not originally from here but “Home” as no easy answer except to say it is here.  I am born in Canada and lived there for 8 years before moving to the US. But my parents were from the UK before migrating to Canada.  So when they moved to the US, I no longer had any family ties back to Canada, just my friends I knew when I was young.

I went to grade school and HS in the the northern suburbs of Chicago.  We moved to Tennessee just before I started University so I ended up going to UT Knoxville.  Like most people, I never moved home after University and my parents moved twice since I have started working.

So I don’t consider where my parents live home since I never lived there, just the occasional visit. I haven’t been back to my home town in Canada since 1996.  Outside of siblings and parents, all the rest of my family (cousins, aunts, uncles, etc) live in the UK so I have only met some a couple of times in my life.

Sometimes Karaoke is in an open bar in which you usually request your song and somebody will come bring you a mic to your table when it is your turn. Then you are singing to the entire bar but you won’t usually get on a stage.

the other is exactly as you imagine, you rent a private room at a karaoke club with friends and usually order bottles of liquor to drink. Buying some kind of liquor package will reduce or remove the room rental charge.  Many of those places are family friendly... others not so and more like a hostess club.

Singapore has approved the Pfizer-NioNTech vaccine and expects to start by the end of the year, Moderna has confirmed an agreement to supply their vaccine so not approved yet, maybe soon. The plan is to have it available to every adult by Q3-Q4 next year for free for those that want it. I do hear a lot of resistance to take it due to safety concerns but I will plan to take it as soon as I can.  I'm plan to visit my parents next year but travel needs to get easier as well as want to make sure to min any risk to them

Just reading in the NYT that the general population will start being vaccinated in April. I've read that in the AZ draft plan, teachers are in Phase 1b, which is basically ahead of everyone but health care personnel. Looks like early next year I could be getting vaccinated, and I have no hesitation. I think if there were any serious red flags, they would have been raised in Phase 3. That's a small leap of faith in the system, but not so dissimilar to the leap I take to get any other vaccination. The potential side effects don't sound awesome, so I'll have sub plans and work for the students ready for a couple days, just in case.

To me, it's every person's right and duty to be vaccinated. Get it done, we need 70%. I'm not terribly plugged-in to public opinion, besides that maybe a month or so ago I read that people were closer to 50-50 about getting vaccinated, which is worrisome. No idea how that changes once the vaccine goes from hypothetical to available-at-Walgreens, but it's time to kick some anti-vaxxer ass, stop the fear and hysteria, and start the healing after this traumatic period of mostly needless loss.

I'll get it the first day I'm eligible. Would be nice to have it by early May since I'm planning a trip in mid-May (albeit one that wouldn't have me particularly near a lot of people and I could take without the vaccine).

we haven't seen a schedule yet though front line workers will start getting by the end of this month. I'll told to expect to work from home for the first half of 2021 but will take at the earliest chance I get.  We enter "Phase 3" on the 28th Dec which will allow gathers up to 8 people and potentially some limited openings of live music and night clubs.  Most of all, looking forward to some normalcy of travel without the requirement of quarantines.

I feel you. TBH, I just want to have a full, in-person class, and to go to the movies. For starters, at least.
