Best cozy/autumnal music
« on: October 18, 2020, 04:34:15 AM »
Letterboxd had a Best cozy/autumnal movies showdown not too long ago, so in that tradition, and because I'm in the need for cozy/autumnal things, I ask for your cozy/autumnal albums and/or individual songs.

For Me (no particular order):
Animal Collective - Sung Tongs (listening to it right now, ahhhh)
Dios (forced to be renamed Malos Dios by someone else named Dios) - self-titled album (kind of an obscure gem)
Funeral - Arcade Fire
Pure Comedy - Father John Misty
U.F.O.F. - Big Thief
Rubber Soul - The Beatles
I think maybe something by Pavement...I don't know why though I don't know if it makes sense...I just sort of feel cozy listening to this bunch play...

Give Mojave 3’s Excuses for Travelers album a listen. Sample:

I’d put most Nick Drake on the list as well.

I don't know how I overlooked Nick Drake! Each one works.

I also forgot what I think is one of the ultimate autumn songs:

Another favorite that always puts me in the mind of burning leaves and apple cider:

Then again, my whole music library is pretty much autumn/winter. I don’t really listen to those other seasons.

Maybe more cathartic than cozy, but definitely autumnal.

"When October Goes" - Kevin Mahogany's version.

Ralph Vaughn Williams -  The Lark Ascending

This is my all time favorite piece of music. Tasmin Little just owns this. Sadly, the recording is subpar, but no one plays it like her. If you like it seek out her version on Chandos, again with Andrew Davis conducting. Sounds so much better.
Masterpiece (100-91) | Classic (90-80) | Entertaining (79-69) | Mediocre (68-58) | Cinemuck (57-21) | Crap (20-0)

I will tell you, classical music is something I've tried to get into, but it takes more patience and time than I normally possess, considering all the little hobbies I get involved in plus work and work extracurriculars. But I played trombone in concert band and in the school symphony, have had an ear for it, and damn, I need more things like this in my life. There are some more contemporary composers I like, like Max Richter or Radiohead's Johnny Greenwood, but that's really as deep as I've been into anything. You are not lying that this is a terrible recording, that hiss is absurd, but I really like it.

Another offering, this song secured U.F.O.F. as album of the year in 2019:

And the woman that inspired this song, Naomi Yang, a rock bassist, also made her own video to it in response to what she heard...
