Top 5 Wedding Scenes
« on: November 14, 2020, 01:42:58 PM »
Don't think we've done this...

Right now my top 4 are from Four Weddings And A Funeral, but I really can't think of many others.

1. The Muppets Take Manhattan – “Extra! Extra! Somebody’s Getting Married”
2. Ball of Fire – “In sickness and in health.” “I’m sick right now.”
3. The Graduate - the obvious pick
4. Crazy Rich Asians/Steel Magnolias – One is the most Art Directed wedding of all time. The other “looks like it’s been hosed down with Pepto-Bismol.”
5. Spaceballs – Best version of a Runaway Bride with play-by-play from the priest

Honorable Mentions:
Kill Bill Vol. 2 - The Blood Splattered Bride
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End - Vows in combat

Unpopular Opinion: It’s the one scene I don’t like from The Princess Bride

Agree on this. Stunning.

I'll add my #1 wedding scene.

I can't think of a lot of films I've seen with wedding scenes, it's one of those things that I think you have to sit back and really think and they'll come flooding in.

First thought was Goodfellas. (I meant The Godfather. I guess this could work, but did not come to mind first.)

After that, I thought, does the one in The Grand Budapest Hotel at the end (not a spoiler) work? It's brief, but it's the one that I think left the biggest impact on me, bittersweet, but sweet, mostly.

Sorry, that's not a top five. One day.

FIDDLER ON THE ROOF is an excellent choice Sandy!

Hmmm, this one is hard because do I go to a movie that is about a wedding--I love FATHER OF THE BRIDE with Steve Martin (the Spencer Tracy one is not bad either, I just love Martin's comedy and Diane Keaton is great too)--or do I go to a particular great wedding scene--such as the aforementioned FIDDLER ON THE ROOF scene.

Weddings are an interesting creature at one time a contractual bond that oftentimes was the subjugation of women, even branding the name of the male on the female and the children.  But it also can be such a beautiful experience where two families become one, each inheriting a son or daughter, or son and son, or daughter and daughter (and also other variations).  FIDDLER's scene is great because it shows the unifying nature of the wedding, by bringing together the community (and the historical dangers the community would face together).  As is something like the GODFATHER where even the Don has to grant everyone's wish on the day of his daughter's wedding.  On the other hand it is a vast expense for a one day party, but it is also an incredible memory that will be forever remembered by the friends and families.

So, I'll just do a hodgepodge

3. BRAVEHEART (1995)
5. THE QUIET MAN (1952)
