Still haven't seen 14, which seems high given how many movies I managed to see last year.

30 unseen.

Martin Eden has been sitting on my watchlist forever - having only seen Marcello's previous film Lost and Beautiful and not caring much for it. The new one supposedly is quite different, so maybe I can muster up enough enthusiasm in a timely fashion.

Also might give Possessor another try since I quit pretty early on the first run. On the other hand, Cronenberg Jr's previous film did even less for me than the Marcello.

Haven't seen 17. I was not nearly as thorough in 2020 as I was in 2019. Thank goodness the theaters are back open and I can just see everything, again.

The nominees in the categories I care about the most that I must see:

Boys State
David Byrne's American Utopia
Heimat is a Space in Time
Ma Rainey's Black Bottom
Mank
One Night in Miami
Soul
The Trial of the Chicago 7
Varda by Agnes

Mank is the only one I'm really not interested in. I think Soul at least has a floor of "OK-to-good" that it can't go below, and I could be pleasantly (though only somewhat) surprised that it's actually fantastic. We'll see, I'm skeptical still. Fincher is just a very talented filmmaker who has now made two films that I am totally ambivalent about when it comes to the subject matter - The Social Network (don't care about Facebook, don't care about Mark Zuckerberg, mainly just hate everyone involved) and Mank (don't care about the writing of Citizen Kane, no matter how much I enjoy the film...honestly, give me something about The Magnificent Ambersons, and I might be more inclined to take it in, that is to me the more interesting - if not as good because of what Hollywood did to the original - film). Maybe Mank will surprise me. I don't hate-watch, I'm just worried I'll be bored and wish I was watching something else. The rest I'm pretty excited about.

It has become a cliche to say that The Social Network isn't really about Facebook or Zuckerberg as we know him. It's a cliche for a reason: it's true. Your doing yourself a disservice by writing it off so easily.

Mank is boring, tho.
