Anyone have any impressions of the new Dave Matthews Band album?

P.S. Unlike you hipsters, I listen to both cool music AND enjoyable music.  :-*

My dislike of Dave Matthews has nothing to do with being a hipster, I just find nothing enjoyable about it.  I have thought this since 5th grade.

Crash into Me is a nice song.

Crash into Me is a nice song.

That's actually kind of the problem with it.

Well, it's not too nice.  I mean, riding along with mom, you hope she's not listening closely to the lyrics.

It's pretty good but I think American Idiot was much better in terms of its production and not having as much ballads as the new record does.

yeah - I don't think its as remarkable as AI was, though not because of the ballads.  also Peacemaker is one of my favorite tracks of the year so far.

  AND

[Why, yes, I am reading (actually listening to)

Why do you ask?]

As for the music itself, I can see why people like it and think it's going to be all that. It's pretty unique, and does successfully bring together a lot of different elements/approaches. But the problem isn't that it's not easy to categorize for radio, in my opinion. The problem is that it's entirely cerebral. It feels more like mental exercise than art; it's not compelling.

I'll give both albums some more listens and see if my opinion changes. But that's my initial impression.

Love their last album. Would be very happy if this one is half that good. Just finishing the first song now, and things look good.
