Liberty Valance did it earlier than Unforgiven.

I'd call it a Revisionist Western, which is something different than what Unforgiven does.

Unforgiven is what you would get if Liberty Valance was the hero of the film.

The Good, The Bad & The Ugly as well as Once Upon A Time In The West have the theme of an ending era. The railroad has arrived in the West, the war has arrived in the West - the good old days are numbered.

We seem to have similar likes and dislikes as far as westerns are concerned pix... at least going by the ones I've seen.

I need to see My Darling Clementine, The Gunslinger, McCabe and Mrs. Miller and the Oxbow incident. McCabe and Mrs. Miller looks best though, being newer and coloured.

The last time I watched High Noon, it didn't hold up for me. I just knew too much about Gary Cooper for him to disappear into the role. On the other hand, the last time I watched Shane, I liked it more than ever.

Check out Django.  It's not great but it's fun and well worth viewing.  The coffin is badass.

I watched a few and they're a very mixed bag.  I prefer the documentaries on the genre.
But the title song to Django and the climax of the Gread Silence are unforgettable.
