10 A Day in the Death of Donny B (1969) Fick

Wake up, everyone!  This is on TCM is fifteen minutes!

Those of you with cable think you're so good.

edit: Where's Degrassi Talks: Sexuality?

pixote

I'm really more of a Degrassi Talks: Abuse man. (that sounds weird)

Degrassi Talks has maybe the best theme in the history of television. It not being on YouTube is criminal.

I felt like there was one standout episode, but I couldn't remember which one.  Abuse sounds right, now that you mention it.

Fits your Kathleen adulation, too, I suppose.

I hadn't thought of that.

Depression is good too. Joey interviews a guy near my old neighbourhood in Winnipeg.

Not video, but it'll get me through the night.

If I wanted to start watching the Up Series, must I start with the first installment, or can I just jump in wherever? I ask because the store near my house doesn't have them all.

You can pretty much jump in wherever.  Watching them in order is pretty cool, though...

Which ones does the store have?  The library doesn't have the nice box set?

Not sure which ones the store has --- a bunch of dusty old VHS tapes.

The library is some good thinking. Last I checked the series was "on order".

nice list.  more for me to check out :)  i just watched Ted Baryluk's Grocery, i feel like i've seen it before - it was pretty great;  i'll check out the other linked films in the next couple of days.  there is an Obomsawin program at Hot Docs this year, it looks like 9 of her films will play.  i've not seen anything by her, was thinking to check some out were i to go, but it looks unlikely
But I wish the public could, in the midst of its pleasures, see how blatantly it is being spoon-fed, and ask for slightly better dreams.

I have Capturing the Friedmans here... why does my DVD say 235 minutes?  Is there an extended version on the DVD?  IMDB only lists it as 107.

wow, totally blown away by this.

Can I count this as your write-up for my doc suggestion to you in Feb?  I'm glad you watched it.

Thanks.

I absolutely love Ted Baryluk's. I saw it for the first time when I was in grade 6 or so (I grew up with one of the director's sons) and I still think it's just prefect. It's not famous, but it did hit a lot of big festivals so it's certainly possible that you've seen it before.

Yesterday I watched Richard Cardinal for the first time in years. If I'm watching objectively then I guess I'd have some criticisms, but I put it on my list because it had a huge impact on me when I first saw it in junior high. Obomsawin is best known for Kanehsatake, the film about the Oka stand-off. I've only seen bits and pieces of that one.
