*waits for sdedalus to defend Miami Vice*

Miami Vice is great.

The theatrical version is better than the "director's cut".

I saw the Directors Cut
What? What are you talking about? It's girls and spaghetti. We love girls and spaghetti.

The only improvement in the director's cut is arguably the underwater opening.  If you liked it, you might want to check out the theatrical version, if you can find it.

I loved the opening.

The theatrical opened with a straight cut to the image of the woman dancing in the club.  It works really well too, throwing you right into the middle of the action.

But I like the underwater opening, setting up a couple of the recurring motifs in the film (water as freedom, barely being able to keep your head above water).

Glad I'm not the only one that really likes Miami Vice.  Haven't bought them yet but I may get The Criterion Days of Heaven tomorrow and I am going to try and pick up the new Kubrick Box set tomorrow.

Ping Pong - Pretty funny but way too long and a disappointing flashback ending.  However, the spoof Ting Pong on the second disc is hilarious.

The Lookout - Strong film.  Joseph Gordon Levitt is on a roll.

The Eel - haven't watched this yet, but I'm looking forward to it.

Triad Election - Didn't live up to the hype.  A lot of posturing and posing, but never a real sense of power and desperation.  I thought Exiled was much more entertaining.
