30 Days of Night
« on: October 22, 2007, 12:57:38 PM »
So what did everyone think about this one? It's not a perfect movie by any means, but it's a solid vampire/horror film with more than its share of worthwhile moments.

And personally, I think when Eben cuts off Billy's head toward the end of movie is one of the best horror movie gore effects I've ever seen.

Also, I absolutely loved the sequence when the vampires first start attacking the town and everything is going crazy. The overhead tracking shots were a brilliant way to convey the sense of scope and horror. The movie itself looks fantastic, I love the way they translated the look of the comic onto the screen. You can definitely tell it was a comic book first, but in a really good way.

I get the distinct impression that I'm the only one on here who has...

I did like Hard Candy so I'll probably see this movie eventually.

I hated Hard Candy.

Just wanted to say that.  30 Days of Night was good though.  Not great, but I agree that it had some good moments, especially the decapitation which got a big response from everyone in the theater.  Definitely could be worse ways to spend two hours around Halloween.

I saw it too.

I really liked it. The movie was beautifully shot and unrelentingly gory. Any horror or vampire fan should go see this movie. While it isn't psychologically scary, there are several "jump scares."

And yes, the "head-hacking" scene is definitely the most realistic decapitation I've seen. But the bulldozer/shotgun scene was my favorite.

That guy was one of the best horror movie heroes we've had in a while. Everybody liked that guy, he was the kick-ass-guy and he went out like a champ. He drives through the town hacking vampires in half and blowing their heads off only to blow some of them up, still survive the explosion and be a badass for the vampire leader.

Like, he was too cool a character to have any hope of surviving that movie.

Yeah, a lot of people winced when Marlow kicked the guy's head in.

Ok - saw this for Halloween - this overhead shots were sick. You were right EO..this did for vampires what 28 Days Later did for zomvies. It took them to another level...I felt helpless, alone and cold...the opening shots really conveyed the remoteness fo the town....go see...

Okaaaaay...Marty was tired and had 2 beers before the movie...many spelling errors.

Also - I liked the feline look to the vamps - very cool and otherworldly.
