Oh no, that's not good.

We got 3 feet of snow over the weekend where I live.

We are currently having a heat wave in Portland.  Might reach 90 today.

Warm and windy - which translates to major dust/allergies.
Summer is out there lurking...blech...I hate summer.

Texas has declared a state of emergency here due to the Winter weather conditions. I know people who deal with these storms every year like to mock us but we don't have the infrastructure to deal with winter storms which leads to people dying.

My family is fortunate in that we are either going to work remotely or have non essential jobs that will close due to the conditions. That's not true for many people we know and I'm hoping they remain safe.

Wow, I just looked at one of my weather websites. What were the low temperatures in Texas this morning? Is it breaking records, it must be?

It was 8F this morning. Coldest weather I've ever been in during my lifetime.

5th day without power. The house is very cold. A huge oak tree in our front yard fell over, completely blocking our driveway and smashing our friend's/houseguest's car. Fortunately, some neighbors came by with chainsaws and cut it up. Then another used a chain and his truck to pull out a big section, allowing us to get out of our garage. Back in the office for the first time in a year so I can get some work done (and catch up on the forum). If the power doesn't come back today, we may check into a hotel.

Oof, that sucks. I hope you and your family are able to get your power back soon.

Living in the north east I was used to losing power for a day or even two at a time because of downed power lines and the like. But the large-scale failure of the Texas power grid is something else, a real catastrophe that could have been avoided had Texas's ruling party not put profits and "independence" above preparation for foreseeable events.

There's a lot of blame that needs to be directed if Texas and the rest of the country are going to learn anything about what to do about these kinds of events that are only going to be more common in the future.

About to snow tomorrow in NJ again. Heard potential for 6-9 inches if it turns right.
