Reubens. (Thanks to tiny, for the inspiration. Never made these at home before - and um, yummm!)

Ooo! Yay! I have to admit, I love my mom's reubens more than any I've had elsewhere. Glad yours turned out well!

So is this just a smoked meat sandwich with cheese?

The recipe calls it "Irish whole-wheat soda bread". Anyways, it's tasty.

+ there's some chili in the slow cooker :)

Just had a finished a piece (with butter). Lot of flavour, very hearty. :)

Here's the recipe if anyone is interested:

2 1/2 C all purpose flour
1c wh wheat flour
4 tbsp. quick cooking oats
4 tbsp bran
2 tsp. sugar
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 3/4 C buttermilk
optional: 1 tbsp. melted butter
              1/2 tbsp. large rolled oats

In large bowl combine dry ingredients. Pour in buttermilk and mix with 2 knives to make a soft dough ( slightly sticky). Don't overmix. Roughly form into a ball and place on floured surface.Flour hands and knead lightly about 12x's. Form into 7"round x 1" thick loaf. Place on greased cookie sheet or cookie sheet with parchment paper under loaf. Score a deep cross on the top of loaf and dribble with butter and sprinkle with Lrg oats.    Bake 30 min at 400o F. Serve warm.  Freezes well.

The only change  is to form the loaf on the cookie sheet and use parchment paper.
