I want Brown the most. Brown, Tisch and Rochester are the only Ph.D. programs (though I'm actually applying to both MA and PhD at Tisch). Brown is the best fit for me and would be fantastic. Assuming I don't get Brown, I'd probably jump on Tisch in the unlikely event of them accepting me, but I don't honestly like Tisch that much (it's just that the program is sooo fantastic and it's the geographically nearest to my loved ones). After all that, I actually prefer Iowa or Emory, and I would even consider taking them instead of a Ph.D. at Tisch or Rochester. I do really really love Iowa, despite not looking forward to moving into the region.

I have a friend that said this about his tenure track gig at Hunter College - "it doesn't matter where you live because you are so busy doing work that you don't even notice where you are."  Unfortunately, I think the same is largely true for grad school.  Granted, there is much more to it than that, but it is a bright side :)

Well part of the consideration is my vegan lifestyle.

For instance, of the schools I'm applying to, Emory, Concordia, NYU, and Wisconsin are in the most vegan-friendly areas. Brown, Iowa, Indiana, and Ohio are in particularly unfriendly areas. Rochester is roughly average.

Now I love Emory because it's my alma mater, but while the town is vegan friendly a lot of the restaurants in the immediate area are touch and go. It's a very easy place to be a vegetarian, but ...

Well they have one of only a handful of vegan markets in the country. So that's how that is. I would probably need a car.

I got by without one while I was there, but it wasn't always easy. It's a very spread out city, but at least marta exists (and is very nice for getting to the airport) :)

Thank Buddha for that. I'll be running up frequent flier miles like crazy.

Being sick and staying in for the night.

Are you done being sick?  And how did No Country hold up in a second viewing?

Yep. I took some magic medicine called Zicam and felt much better the next day. No Country lost a little steam for me in the second viewing. I still really liked it, especially the ending, but I think Zodiac is my favorite of the year. The first hour of No Country didn't have any of the nuance or suspense of the second half.

Wow, your Zicam works a lot better than mine does!
