Are Godard and Rivette now the only 2 alive from the French New Wave?

Chabrol and Moullet are still alive and still making films.

Ah.

And Varda still is. Is Varda considered New Wave?

Kind of by some people.  Resnais, too.  More specifically, Cleo and Hiroshima are often called New Wave classics.

I guess because Varda and Resnais didn't write for Cahiers, they often don't get grouped in.

Varda, Resnais, Demy and Marker are sometimes grouped in with the New Wave, they form the "Left Bank" contingent with the Cahiers guys (Godard, Rohmer, Truffaut, Chabrol, Rivette) being the "Right Bank".

All of them are still working except for Truffaut, Demy and Rohmer.

Malle is (was) left bank then, correct?

Rohmer neophytes, I think the best place to start is either My Night at Maud's or Love in the Afternoon.

Malle and Melville sometime get grouped in with them as well.

I was just going to ask if I need to watch the Six Moral Tales in order or if I should just start with the best one and see how that goes.

If you can watch them in order, there's no reason not to, in my opinion.

Although I do (sort of) agree, the most accesible starting point being My Night at Maud's. Though I'd go the other way with my second choice, and say Pauline at the Beach.

Last I saw they hadn't released a cause of death.
