Brian Dennehy

You never forget your first. When I was first falling in love with movies, one of my early favorites - with multiple replays on HBO - was First Blood. Sylvester Stallone stars but I was drawn to the ferocious authority of Dennehy's sheriff. Here's a man who could fill a frame, not just physically but with his mere presence. In the opening scene, he's having a casual chat with Stallone and makes John Rambo look small.

Split Image (1982)
Cocoon (1985)
Silverado (1985)
F/X (1986)
Best Seller (1987)

I watched anything he was in, from Twice in a Lifetime (1985) to The Last of the Finest (1990), and he has good taste for a script. He's probably best known for Tommy Boy (1995) and my wife knows him from Ratatouille (2007). He also had an amazing stage career.

He is Legend.

I too so LOVE FIRST BLOOD and Dennehy's character, his huge imposing presence made him frightening, but also loveable (like in Tommy Boy where he also made Chris Farley look small!).  I need to revisit COCOON, I remember it only vaguely and enjoying it greatly!

It was a few days ago, but Tim Brooke Taylor, a childhood favourite of mine from The Goodies. However he was involved in comedy with John Cleese and Graham Chapman pre-Python, including being one of the writers of the 4 Yorkshire men sketch, which he performed with Cleese, Chapman, and Marty Feldman (the other writers of the sketch).

I recently rewatched First Blood and the scene really stood for me this time. When I saw those 2 together, I though Dennehy could snap Stallone like a trig if he wanted to
