Indeed it was.

Thanks to CSShneider for mentioning Darius Khondji. His look is pretty amazing and hugely influential, especially his work on Se7en. I think he is this generation's Vittorio Storaro. That is praise that does not come lightly from me.

For the record, I too love Amelie.
Wake up son. I'll be taking these Huggies and whatever cash you got.

Been waiting for this in my Lovefilm queue for too long now.

Only just found out Filmspotting had a forum. Kind of a new listener.

I think Delicatessen would certainly fall more into the overlooked catagory than Amelie... even though there has recently been a large DVD push of it in the states.  City of Lost Children too but certainly not as much..

Amelie plays on the movie channels all the time. Its an ok film but that girl annoys me to no end.

I admit I need to see it again.  I saw it once, many years ago, and just didn't like it much, though I couldn't tell you what I didn't like about it.  It's highly possible I wasn't in the right mindset to enjoy it.  (Sometimes all the lovely and happy in the world just grates if I'm in a rotten mood.)   ::)

A local revival theater is showing Amelie on Monday, but unfortunately basketball season starts Monday and I'll have practice.  >:(

If I was you I'd watch 'Amelie', give basketball practice a miss, saying you've 'tweaked' something. ;)

Another French film that's not mentioned much and is very good (in my opinion)
La fille sur le pont
Daniel Auteuil and Vanessa Paradis - and she's really good in this
