Filmspotter Book Club: Second Reading Selection Poll
« on: November 26, 2007, 10:26:33 AM »
Telegraph Days by Larry McMurtry

Saturday by Ian McEwan

Out by Natsuo Kirino

The Ruins by Scott Smith

House of Leaves by Mark Danielewski

ok, vote away.  Theses are all books that I have and have never gotten to or never finished, so I hope you guys like the choices.  The poll will run for 14 days so that people will have time to get the book once we've made a decision.

Happy voting! :)

I read The Ruins and it's pretty good.  Don't look for anything real life changing out of it.

I don't know that any of my selections are all that life-changing...

Damn!  Did I miss the first book, I meant to at least crack it.  Starting the second in two weeks is perfect.

Choose Out!

But I wish the public could, in the midst of its pleasures, see how blatantly it is being spoon-fed, and ask for slightly better dreams.

You haven't missed the first book (I still haven't finished it), but Saltine asked if we could make a decision about the next book and I thought it would be a good idea to give people a chance to get the book and all that.  We'll start it mid-Decemberish... Out is really good (it's one of the books I started but had to put down in favor of schoolwork).

I just remembered that a film adaptation of The Ruins is set for release next year with Jena Malone, Jonathan Tucker, and Laura Ramsey.

I will have to give this vote serious thought... I wouldn't pick up any of the books on my own... heck I wouldn't even read most of their cover jackets. eek!
Strikeouts are boring - besides that, they're fascist.  Throw some ground balls.  More democratic.

I went with Saturday by Ian McEwan.  I've read Telegraph Days.  None of the others stand out for me, but I'm supposed to be open to new reads here at the book club so I'll go along with whatever is picked.

And thanks to Vicki for accommodating me and putting the poll up early.

That was me, after reading the excerpts of the books available at Amazon.  The Ruins didn't have one, but the ones for Telegraph Days and House of Leaves didn't bode at all well for the rest of those books, and Saturday's just seemed so ordinary.
