who cares if she wasn't doing the singing, acted a storm and I would never have known! (if not informed by a snobby critic :P)

Mark Kermode?  :) He really hated that she didn't do her own singing.

As vehement as he is, he does admit to having been wrong every once in a while  ;) We'll see what happens with this one.

Loved the Page-Cody interview, Adam! Those two really warmed my little feminist heart  :) even if Page did misinterpret where your question was going and get a little defensive.

Looking forward to seeing Juno - not in theaters where I live yet.  :(

I suspect his underlying problem with this one is his ongoing hatred of the French, heh heh.
Maybe he just needs a good dose of Delpy in a 'Before Sunset/Sunrise' double bill, did the trick with my boy, anyway  :P

I am glad Adam finally saw Hard Candy?  I hoped he enjoyed it (although I am not sure how much you can enjoy a movie like that).  My top 5 lead performances:

Male:
1. Viggo Mortenson – Eastern Promises
2. Ryan Gosling – Lars and the Real Girl
3. Gordon Pinsent – Away from Her
4. Adam Sandler – Reign Over Me
5. John Cussack – 1408

(I feel like I should include Daniel Day-Lewis on here even though I haven't seen the film just because from the trailer he looks amazing)

Female:
1. Ellen Page - Juno
2. Christina Ricci – Black Snake Moan
3. Katherine Heigl – Knocked Up
4. Michelle Monaghan – Gone Baby Gone
5. Selma Blair – Purple Violets
6. Naomi Watts - Eastern Promises (can somebody tell me why this is being pushed as a supporting performance?  in such a weak year she could easily get in)

What he hated about it most was the fact, that they..uh.."ignored WW2", if I remember correctly.

In my memory, not singing herself and the omission of WWII were equally offensive to Dr. Kermode, and about the only two things I can remember he ever said about the film. And both complains seem very valid to me. I haven't seen the film, though, so I won't claim that I am able to judge the performance.

I feel I am in no position to pass any judgement on the years films and performances yet, as so much stuff will only get here next year (No Country, Juno, There will be Blood...). Anyway, interesting Top 5s by the guys, a lot of which I didn't see coming.

Yeah, can't believe we have to wait until April to see No Country for Old Men.
Talking about Kermode, I just listed to Friday's podcast and he completely destroyed Coppola's Youth without Youth, calling it unreleaseable and really baldy acted. Since Tim Roth is on Adam's Top 5 Acting list, I'm no even more curious about the review.

I just listened to the show last night and I was beyond thrilled to hear Matty include Sidse Babett Knudsen and Rolf Lassgard (from After the Wedding) in his Top 5 performances lists.  In fact, I was so thrilled that I put the movie on as soon as I finished listening to the show.  I just wish that Matty could have found a spot for Mads Mikkelsen's performance on his list too, but my blinding love for all things Mikkelsen is pretty well documented around here...

Have you had a chance to watch it yet, Adam?  I'm curious to hear what you made of the performances.
