Half Japanese: The Band That Would Be King
« on: July 13, 2005, 10:59:23 AM »
I don't know anyone else who has seen the documentary about legendary indy band Half Japanese http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0107071/, but it's a jem of a movie.  It starts with a band so bad this seems to be a mockumentary like Spinal Tap.  However, as I watched it I grew a certain fondness for these guys, especially leader Jad Fair (think Crispin Glover).  He has a certain spirit to his music and needs to be heard.  Then the doc switches to being about independent music and the time in the 80s when indy labels started.

Great stuff for those that are interested in indy music, and artists whose desire to share their art is greater than their talent.
