Advertising
« on: March 09, 2008, 02:15:26 PM »
As you may have noticed, I have placed a banner ad below the menu in these boards. The reason for this is simple -- the boards get a lot of traffic and, well, we wouldn't mind turning Filmspotting into something that actually pays the bills.

The same with advertising in the podcast, I hope you'll trust that we would never allow the advertising to become obtrusive. You'll notice it doesn't flash, pop up, or slow down the site. Moving forward, you should also find that the advertising will be geared toward movie related content.

For now, we're testing things out. If it's too much hassle for what it ends up being worth, we'll dump it. Thanks.

That would be preferable, as pixote eloquently pointed out:

At least the ads are targeted to my needs.  In the past hour, I verified my credit score, bought a house in Chicago, signed up for ADT security, scheduled back surgery, lost twenty-five pounds, got rid of some stretch marks, and tracked down a classmate I had a crush on once.  All in all, a good night.

I have to know what is actually available to an advertiser, how it will look and how much you all will bitch before I get specific with other advertisers.

One additional note -- I could put Entertainment news in there, but the box is such that every time you click on a link the ad re-loads. So pick your poison -- random ads or targeted ads that are really annoying as you navigate around? I'm going with random ads.

But I wish the public could, in the midst of its pleasures, see how blatantly it is being spoon-fed, and ask for slightly better dreams.

My thoughts on ads- mostly, I'm with skjerva. I have no problem with ads, if they're there deferring the cost of the bandwith and such. If there are extra ads just for profit though, that's more of an issue for me.

I am cool with the ads - this should be a profitable venture for Adam and Matt, especially since we are here for free.

Yeah I really don't mind them either. If I did I would set up an Ad Blocker. I just think it would be more profitable if they were somewhat related to movies, since I (and others) might actually click on them that way.
