I think Annie Hall is the best but Crimes is too low on both your lists. While Matchpoint should be bottom.

Midnight in Paris Woody Allen, 2011

Owen Wilson travels to Paris with a bunch of assholes in tow, finds out that his present situation is terrible, does nothing about it. Thru movie magic, he ends up in 20's Paris, where a bunch of American expatriates and cultural figures are all mingling about, with the same stupid problems that Wilson has just left behind. The Past. I've had similar romantic notions as that of the Wilson character, and when you get called an "old soul" for liking old movies, it just confuses you and throws you off. Wilson has adventures in The Past, movie stars get to play dress up and do impressions, it's all quite fun. Don't romanticize the past, says Woody. Okay, well, but you gotta give me something besides rich douchebags, and, no, pretty French maidens straight out of my fantasies won't do. Unless it's all really happening to me, in which case, I'll take it. The whole thing's a breeze, with none of the miserableness of You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger or Vicky Cristina Barcelona. Light, light, light. At least there's no Bergman or Fellini in this one.

I'm having a hard time mustering up any enthusiasm for that one.

Yep, that's it, exactly.  "Don't romanticize the past, but just go ahead and accept the fantasy of this film instead; we'll just decide that life will placate us beautiful French girls and the pretty postcard Paris even if we give up our dreams of the past."

I dunno.  Maybe Woody's never seen La Haine.  One would have thought the guy who made The Purple Rose of Cairo though - with its ending - wouldn't be satisfied with a Midnight in Paris:-\
