Yeah, admittedly I have not seen Putnam County Spelling Bee, so I concede the point that I cannot judge Fogler based on any performances other than the ones in terrible movies.  I think that the that sticks out to me though, that is in Good Luck Chuck...a truly bad movie...Fogler was, in my mind, the worst part of it.  Now I understand that it has a lot to do with the character he was given, but he is also written in such a way as to be the "comic sidekick."  It's impossible to say he ruined to movie, since it was broken right off the bat, but the way he played his character was more cringe inducing for me than any moment with Jessica Alba's notorious acting.

Let me say this, though...I realize Balls of Fury and Good Luck Chuck probably aren't good starting points.  But if he's up and coming, I would guess he's done something which would make Matty put him in the #1 slot.  So is it just based off of Putnam County Spelling Bee and Matty's assertion that Fanboys is going to be a starmaker?  Or are we going off of anything else he has acted in on film that one could actually check out?   I'll give the guy a chance...but I am a wee bit skeptical

I will try to support Adam's assessment that 'Rear Window' does break the fourth wall.

You mean the assessment he credited to ... you?   ;)

pixote

I cannot fathom the mind of Adam.

As soon as I think I've got Adam pegged, he does something that completely baffles me. I do not claim to know the mind of Adam, and I was just surprised as anyone when he cited me as a source of inspiration.

But, yeah, I completely agree with his choice and will defend it if people go after it.

And, yeah, there is a bit of ego at stake here.

And, yeah, this forum is the best place to take me down a peg or two.

In regards to Rear Window, I think there is one key breaking the 4th wall moment, and that is when Thorwald looks from the wedding ring and then directing at Jefferies/ the camera/ the audience. When I screened this film for multiple classes on high school and middle school students, this moment gets a collective gasp and afterwards some students do explicitly state that the moment is so effective because it feels like they as a viewer are "caught looking".

That's exactly it. I remember literally jumping back in my seat like I was trying to hide behind something. That's more than just an effective use of POV.

Please take a stab at the last dragon contest if you are familiar with the movie at all. It would really help us out.

I'll echo the wtf at Dan Fogler. The guy was horrendous in Good Luck Chuck though granted it's not like it was a good script or a good character. I don't think anyone could've made that character any less annoying and contemptible.
You're basing your assessment of this guy on Chuck and Balls of Fury? Did you listen to/watch on YouTube that clip from Putnam County Spelling Bee? Put me completely on board with Matty's choice.

I listened to it and then watched the clip on youtube. The guy seems funny enough. Let's just hope he'll choose better roles though. Apparently, he's going to play Hitchcock in some upcoming movie?

Isn't Channing Tatum to well known by now compared to the other names on the list.  I agree that he is a great actor but I left him off my list because I think he had his breakthrough in 2006.  This is the same reason why Ellen Page isn't on my list.  She is too well known after Juno.

I can't see Channing Tatum and Ellen Page anywhere close to being on the same level notoriety-wise.

Just want to say The Last Dragon contest is pretty fun.
