Forrest Gump is an all-time great and a classic.
I pretty much agree. It's just outside my Top 100. I think the Gump backlash comes from the fact that it came out the same year as Pulp Fiction and won the Oscar. But I think Gump, while not quite as narratively daring as Pulp, is still a boldly original film. No villain, no set structure, rambling without feeling episodic. And while people complain that it's dark edges were sweetened over, I think just the opposite. This is a basically sweet story with a surprising amount of darkness. Beyond the great effects, which nobody can find fault with, there's amazing narrative tour-de-force scenes like the "Freebird" suicide attempt and Lt. Dan vs. God.
Hilarious comedy...
"That's my boat."
And one of the decade's great performances...
Love this look.
Sometimes, I guess there just aren't enough rocks.
