How do you know?
Apparently test audiences are flipping out.
Oh, is that so? Interesting. I guess we'll know more coming May.

For me this greatly increases the odds that it is terrible, not good.

So ... positive test audience reaction = bad omen?

For me yes, as I am generally not a fan of huge blockbuster type films that would appeal to a test audience. For most people, I am sure it is a positive sign.

If test audiences are still the groups of people in american malls that have open enough schedules that they're content to be randomly pulled out of their day for 3 hours, then this is a terrible omen.

for the rekkid (Hi Jr.!), i've not tested this - I just think it looks like a solid Bruckheimer blockbuster that will go down smooth as hell.

Yea, I don't put much stock in the regular moviegoer. And I'm pretty sure PR people manipulate test audiences.

I went to a test screening one time for Love Actually.

I don't recommend going to one.  It is an unenjoyable experience.  You can't really watch a film and enjoy it when it's unfinished.  It's frustrating and you then have to make notes afterwards and such.

I thought Love Actually was a mess in its test screening and not much was changed from that version to the final film.  There's parts of it I liked but some parts I wished was cut from the film.

And we should note that test screenings are always unreliable.  After all, one poor test screening in Chicago forced Warner Brothers to get the editor of Police Academy to re-cut Sergio Leone's Once Upon a Time in America without his consent.  That cut version was panned by critics and when it was shown in its original cut, it was considered a masterpiece.

And don't we remember someone talking about a test screening for Righteous Kill and someone trying to pump up the audience.  Never trust people at a test screening.  It can screw with your mind.

There's nothing wrong with test screenings. It's a bit of a long process, but from my experience, few things really change (other than finishing special effects, etc.). If major things do change, than you have the rare opportunity to see a longer or different cut of a film, one that will never be released. Such was my experience with Public Enemies. The cut I saw was much better than what was released.

I recommend the experience to anyone.

Abel Ferrara's "Bad Lieutenent" is a far more spiritually Christian film than Mel Gibson's "The Passion Of The Christ".

This probably isn't unpopular on these boards, but it is in real life. I found the former utterly moving in it's depiction of the message of Christianity, while the latter pointless.
