The Day of the Jackal offers a great perspective on the assassin and the inspector trying to stop him. It's a film about methods, which may feel slow for some, but it's directed with a lot of class.
-Le Chiffre: You changed your shirt, Mr Bond. I hope our little game isn't causing you to perspire.

-James Bond: A little. But I won't consider myself to be in trouble until I start weeping blood.

High Noon, Oklahoma! and The Day of the Jackal. Julia and A Man for All Seasons are both pretty high up on my "Movies I need to see" list, though. Of the three I've seen High Noon is my favorite (it's probably one of my five favorite films period), but I think Zinnemann's best achievement of the three might be Oklahoma. Musicals are very hit or miss for me, and I've seen Oklahoma on stage before and in a TV production and found nothing that I liked about it either time,  but somehow Zinnemann managed to turn it into a movie I enjoyed (granted, it helps when you have Shirley Jones to work with).

The Search (1948)
Teresa (1951)
High Noon (1952)
From Here to Eternity (1953)
Oklahoma! (1955)
The Nun's Story (1959)
The Sundowners (1960)
A Man for All Seasons (1966)
The Day of the Jackal (1973)
Julia (1977)

Most of all I love The Day of the Jackal, for that cruel and cold performance by Edward Fox

I'll get to it next year as my marathon nears the end, but Day of the Jackal is one of the greatest movies ever made.  Period.  And it's slow for 2 scenes, but the rest of it is mesmerizing in the details.  I've watched it a couple of dozen times and recommend it much like zarodinu recommends Woman in the Dunes.  I don't like Zinnemann overall as a director, but I stand behind this movie the way Sam stands behind Malick.

Always liked Zinneman's films. Jackal is one of the best suspense/thrillers ever.

I have a copy of Julia coming. I never realised it has Jason Robards playing Dash Hammett in it, that sells it for me.
