I think Batman Begins is a better complete film than The Dark Knight, but the TDK has a few tremendous scenes that have stayed with me.

The Dark Knight 9/10
Following 8/10
Dunkirk 8/10
Inception 8/10
Insomnia 7/10
The Prestige 7/10

The Dark Knight Rises 4/10
Interstellar 4/10

I wish there was as much love for FOLLOWING as there is for MEMENTO - it's Nolan at his most restricted budget-wise and that forces him to work within intimate spaces and with lengthy dialogue sequences. Everything else is so operatic in stakes that it makes you forget that he can be an incredible director of intimacy. I hope he surprises us next - if he needs to stay in his genre wheelhouse, fine, but how cool would a classic throwback whodunnit noir from Nolan be? Say he adapted something by Raymond Chandler or Dashiell Hammet or Agatha Christie? A fan can dream. A romantic melodrama would be cool too, but I know not to expect a big change.

I never watched FOLLOWING  but I would dearly like to see a Nolan noir. Pretty sure all the noir heads would too, except maybe Martin.

*POOF*

Much like The Coen Bros, Noir is a clear favorite genre of Nolan.

Im a bigger fan than most, but Id say Nolans work (particularly on the last two films) has been on a downward tragectory toward highly competent cinematic mediocrity ... as I am sure many of his critics would characterize all of his work; but Ive revisited all of these but one over the last two years, and I would stand by my ratings.
