Wow, this is a tough one. I didn't realize how big a fan I was of Nolan's work till I saw those all in a row.

2. Inception
3. Memento
4. Batman Begins
5. The Prestige
6. Insomnia

and I love all 6 of them. I still need to see Following and I'm dying to.

1. The Dark Knight
2. Memento
3. Inception
4. Batman Begins
5. The Prestige
6. Insomnia
7. Following

Memento has been a favorite of mine for years, but The Dark Knight is just a straight hit to everything I love in the movies. I don't care if it is or isn't perfect, but it's the kind of action/superhero movie I'd wanted for years.

The Dark Knight* Christopher Nolan, 2008

When I first watched this, I thought it was lots of fun, but now it's nothing but a drag. Nothing but characters barking out exposition like it's the most serious thing in the world or blurting out the themes that are already implicit in the action of the film. This wouldn't bug me so much if Nolan was an interesting stylist, or if he brought anything to his action sequences besides confusion, but he does neither. But, anyway, this is all just rehashed arguments from 3 years ago. Duh.

I recently rewatched this too and I've now seen it so many times that the action sequences are much easier to follow. Just another way Nolan is rewarding revisits of his films.

What happens at the party after Batman jumps out the window?  Does the Joker kill all those rich people?  Shrug his shoulders and go home?
