At least Hermit is watching the right one! But seriously, everybody under three movies needs to remedy that.

I like Cronenberg's body-horror, and just grisly monster horror movies in general. Might check out the rest of his stuff.

In that case, eXistenZ, Videodrome, and The Dead Zone might be up your alley.

Funny thing about eXistenZ is that when I first heard it long ago, I felt it was a cool concept, but never really gotten the time to watch it.

Videodrome is just all sorts of popular, a title often mentioned around Cronenberg discussions (almost as much as Scanners). Might give it a shot.

Interesting that The Dead Zone's movie title is stylized to look like "The Twilight Zone" on its movie poster. And it has Walken in a horror movie... interesting. I've seen him in Sleepy Hollow, but he's never occurred to me as the horror movie actor type.

There were so many lackluster reviews of ADM that I'd decided not to put much effort into seeking it out.

A Dangerous Method (2011)
* * ˝
"Lackluster" is a good jumping off point, because I'd heard the same and imagined something talky and dry. It is talky, but the three talkers are great at it. The film isn't lackluster in the typical sense but only when you consider the subjects and subject matter. An internal battle between the intellect and basic instincts played out as a battle between two radically different but quite similar thinkers with a weak woman in the middle who's actually quite strong. Weird as it sounds, there are parallels to the three leads in Dawn of Justice and watching that battle of wills played out on Cronenberg's stage made this worth my catching up with. I just don't think I got much else out of it.

Crimes of the Future (1970)
* ˝
Many filmmakers have early work made for no money they would rather we not know about. This is the kind of student filmmaking you'd want to avoid, with navel-gazing ideas and largely narrated instead of dramatized to save money. Still, it does look like a film from Cronenberg's early period and there are a number of shots that would make you believe this person has the cinematic eye.

The problem with ADM is, if you know anything about the two of them, you immediately realise how limited the movie is. Jung was by all accounts a brilliant man who laid out the framework for psychologists for decades to come and none of that is present in the movie. It makes them sound commonplace and boring when they should be novel and exciting.
