Telling my students to write down their conference times, then having half of them email me to ask what time they signed up for, then having a quarter of them not show up for their conference or turn in their paper. But... that's teaching freshman comp.

Late games that people insist on watching when other people are trying to sleep.

Yep.  I always email out the list of conference times now before anyone asks.

I had been doing that but got sidetracked with spring break this time. So, as I was typing the list, a colleague came up behind me and said, "Never email your students their conference times." And I snapped and yelled at him, "If I don't, they won't CINECAST!ing show up!"

What are conference times?

The time to individually meet with students and discuss their papers.

Exactly. And if I didn't send out one email to everyone, I'd be sending out 15 individual emails, responding to students who'd forgotten their times.

Ah, I should have guessed that. When I was a TA we called it 'office hours'.
