Movie, Film and Cinema all have distinct connotations for me.

Could you elaborate?

Movie is something that simply aims to entertain.
Film is technically proficient and more serious and dramatic in tone,
Cinema is visually alluring and focuses on the image to tell the story.

Or something like that. I'm being very narrow and simplistic with these definitions.

Silent Picture Show
Talking Picture Show
3-D Picture Show
Late Night Double Feature Picture Show

Agreed. It seems to belittle the films he is talking about.
